“Playing the Gender Card”

Written May 29, 2016…

A comment from a female fellow Bernie Sanders supporting friend of mine earlier, talking about how she was actually called “sexist” for merely stating a fact about Hillary Clinton, made me think about this accusation that keeps getting lobbed our way, with no actual evidence to back it up. And it gets lobbed at women just as much as men, which I find to be very strange. If a black person criticizes Obama, does that make them racist?
Let me say that I’m sure there are many people in this country who are not going to vote for Hillary simply because they don’t want a woman President. Just like there were many people who didn’t want Obama to be President simply for being black. If you chose to not vote for Hillary or Obama specifically because of their gender or race, then I have no respect for you.
But I resent getting accused of something I am not. I proudly voted twice for Obama. I was happy to see a black man become President, but I didn’t vote for him simply because he was black. I voted for him because I thought he would make a good President. He still had to earn my vote, though, just like anyone else. He’s done things I’ve liked but there are things he’s done that I have not agreed with nor liked. If I criticize him for those things, does that all of a sudden mean I am “racist”? Does it mean I am a “Republican troll”? The birthers that accuse him of being a Muslim foreigner, and blame him for everything that has ever taken place on the earth, more than likely are all racists and anti-Muslim. But criticizing him over an actual policy that you disagree with, is not because of him being black. And I would highly resent anyone accusing me of being racist because of that.
I have criticized Hillary quite a bit over the months, but it has been strictly because I don’t agree with a lot of things she has done or said, I don’t feel she is a true progressive liberal (at least not nearly liberal enough for my tastes), and I don’t trust her for many reasons. I think she is corrupt and a pathological liar. I frankly could not care less that she is a woman. I would accuse her of the same exact things if she was a man. But does pointing these things out make me “sexist”? I don’t believe it does. I have many of the same problems with her as dozens of women I know. Are they all sexist too? I know that they would love to see America have its first female President, just as I would. We just don’t want this particular woman to be the one. I would have gladly voted for Liz Warren. I might still vote for Jill Stein. But I refuse to vote for someone like Hillary Clinton, and I frankly don’t care what gender she is. I just think she is a horrible candidate. Period.
Using the “sexist” accusation against anyone who dares not to vote for her, or who criticizes her on actual policy issues, shows one of two things. First, that you think women should be treated differently than men. If you think they should not be criticized, I have to ask you why. Do you think women can’t handle criticism? If so, then it’s you that sounds like the “sexist” one, playing the gender card with anyone who dares not agree with a woman. But most of the time I think they are just using gender as a diversionary, manipulative tactic designed to discredit the person making the criticism. They don’t like what you’re saying about her, so they try to discredit you by calling you “sexist,” thus dismissing anything you said, and making sure nothing else you say after that will be taken seriously.
And if they don’t call you “sexist,” they accuse you of being a Trump supporter (like I was accused of being yesterday, despite the fact that I am obviously a Bernie supporter and despise Drumpf)… or they call you a “Republican troll.” They are all tactics meant to take heat off of the fact you have told an ugly truth about their candidate, and to discredit you. It’s highly manipulative but it can be an effective way to get others to also dismiss anything you’re saying.
I loathe anyone who would not vote for a candidate simply because they are a woman. But I also loathe anyone who would wantonly play the gender card to manipulatively discredit someone just because they have legitimately criticized your candidate of choice. If your candidate has done something heinous, don’t blame me, or make horrible, false accusations about me, in order to take the heat off of what your candidate did. I would never accuse someone of being anti-Semitic simply because they disagreed with a policy of Bernie’s. If I did, I would be engaging in the same odious behavior as they are. And that kind of disgusting behavior really needs to stop.

“Railing Against the System”

Written March 16, 2016…

It’s become more clear to me than ever just how thoroughly rotten our political system is. Corrupt, rigged, vile, deceitful and lacking in any morals or accountability. And the media is just as bad.

We seriously do need a political revolution in this country, because if you still believe we are living in a democracy you are suffering from cognitive dissonance or willful ignorance. This is now just an oligarchy that wants to control all of us and keep the status quo. And we are all to blame for letting this happen right in front of our eyes.

If I sound angry, you’re damn right I’m angry! Why aren’t you angry as well? And the next person who asks me why I refuse to vote for Hillary in November, I am ignoring your question. I have already explained myself more than enough times. If you didn’t get it, you never will. But I won’t be a part of this “shitstem.”

I won’t vote for someone who takes money from the very people that fucked all of us over in 2008. That’s just sick and twisted.

Wake up and realize both parties are corrupt and do not give a shit about you and I. There are obvious exceptions, of course, but overall the Democrats have liberals fooled into thinking they are better than the Republicans, but it’s mostly just smoke and mirrors.

You can vote for whoever you want, but I will never vote for someone I don’t believe in nor trust. And neither should you. That is why we are in the mess we are in.

“Saying No to the Status Quo”

Written Jan. 21, 2016…

I will not accept the status quo any longer in this country, and neither will millions of other people. Hence, movements like Black Lives Matter, Occupy Wall Street and Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump doing so well in the polls. People who follow Trump are completely misguided and ridiculous, of course, but it shows how disillusioned with the Republican Party conservatives have become. On the Democratic side, Sanders has surged in the polls due to millions of liberals being fed up with the liberal establishment and the DNC.

People say Bernie is “pie in the sky.” I disagree. Bernie has been in politics for over forty years. He is not some wide-eyed kid just starting out. He has been through a lot and fought for a lot, including getting arrested for marching for civil rights in the early ‘60s. That took guts for a white person back then. He has been fighting against the establishment status quo all his life, voting for things that were considered career suicide, but he did it because it was the right thing to do. He didn’t give into cynicism or what was politically expedient at the moment.
There are a lot of people out there who mean well, and probably consider themselves liberal, but who don’t seem to want to see the boat get rocked too much. Maybe they simply like the idea of liberalism more than the actual reality. Or maybe they have too many scars from fighting for what was right over the years and have just become too cynical and disillusioned, and just want a more simple life now and are okay with the status quo… but I’m not. And neither is Bernie. Or millions of others. I’m a cynical person by nature but the passion that he and fellow supporters have shown have me excited again, and believing that something great is actually within grasp… if we allow it to happen and don’t give in to the fear and the cynicism. I want to see the good things that happened under President Obama be taken to a much greater level with the next president.
I have met some Bernie supporters who are about the most passionate people I have ever seen in my life, and it’s been a real eye-opener. It makes me realize we have been swallowing lies and garbage for too long in this country and we need to stop doing that. We were going in the right direction back in the ‘60s and then took some horrible turn along the way, and we’ve never gotten back on track. We have allowed greed and cynicism and money to control us as a nation. We have allowed racism to become perfectly acceptable again. We have allowed sexism to become normal again. And here we are having to re-fight all the same old battles again.
I’m sure there were plenty of black people, not to mention whites, who told Dr. Martin Luther King to just accept what little gains he had made and not try, or even hope, for anything better. That could get you killed. It was hard enough just to get to this point… don’t try to go any further. But he kept fighting for a better life for black people, as well as all people. It cost him his life but he never showed fear. It makes me wonder what more could have been achieved if his life hadn’t been cut short with a bullet. Bernie is one person who is trying to carry on his work and yet some people just think he is delusional, naive, angry, etc. They are perfectly willing to accept what little gains have been made and not hope for anything better. Well, I will gladly follow the candidate who is trying to fight the status quo establishment. I will back the candidate who wants to see super PACs gone from elections. No more big money politics, no more Wall Street ass-kissing, no more taking money from billionaires and Big Pharma and the insurance companies. No more special interests and shady deals in back rooms. No more Wall Street CEOs getting away with murder. If you are a politician you cannot take huge amounts of money from Goldman Sachs and others like them, and then claim you will be tough on them. If you believe that, then that is “pie in the sky” thinking and delusional.
When I hear Hillary supporters say that Bernie is “too angry,” all I can think is: Why aren’t you as angry as he is? Why is every person in this country not angry as hell? Are you okay with the 1% getting richer and richer, and the rest of us getting poorer? Are you okay with your rights slowly being taken away, little by little? Are you okay with politicians who make tons of promises and never come through on them? Are you okay with a Congress that gets paid big money to do absolutely nothing? Are you okay with Democrats doing things that you would never tolerate from any Republican? Shouldn’t you be holding your own candidates to a higher standard? If not, then why? Democrats have voted for horrible things like the TPP and the Patriot Act. They have voted in favor of the Iraq War, which was one of the biggest foreign policy blunders and embarrassments in our history. They have voted against gay marriage and gays in the military. They have voted for NAFTA. Well, Bernie Sanders didn’t vote for any of these horrible things. That should count for something. It certainly does for me. It’s not just where you are now on the issues, but where you have been in the past as well. Voting for the right thing is very easy when it’s politically expedient to do so. But where were they when it was not politically expedient? And believe me, if Bernie gets into office and keeps none of his promises, then he will be held accountable just like anyone else. He knows we will not let him off the hook or give him a free pass. But I also hope that Bernie supporters don’t turn on him the first time he has to make a compromise that we don’t agree with. No president is going to do everything that we like. And no president is infallible. I don’t expect him to be the Second Coming. That would be naïve. But obviously he needs better people in positions of power to help him with his plans, or it will be all for nothing. He also needs all of us to get more involved in the political process. As he always says, it’s not “when I become President” but “when WE become President.” We need to start throwing out all these establishment career politicians (regardless of what party they belong to) and start voting in people who actually want to make a real change.
I want a candidate who is looking out for the 99%… not the 1%. Voting for Democrats who are only slightly better than Republicans is not going to do us any good and not change a damn thing for the better. All you are doing is just trying to keep things from getting any worse. Is that really what you want??? Are you okay with settling for so little? Isn’t that what we have already been doing for decades? And how has that worked out for any of us?
We need to stop fooling ourselves and suffering from cognitive dissonance, thinking that the Democrats are all that different than Republicans. They sadly are not much better. The Democratic Party has been moving steadily more to the right over the years, and only seem “progressive” because the Republicans have gone completely batshit crazy into the extreme zone. But we need to start holding the Democrats to higher standards and stop accepting the status quo and mediocrity. We need to stop accepting the “lesser of 2 evils” and start demanding better.
I find it very interesting that establishment Democrats are all of a sudden coming out of the woodwork to go on TV and bash Bernie, in favor of Hillary. It reeks of desperation and pure cynicism, if you ask me. Look at her poll numbers and tell me that she isn’t growing more worried with each passing day. Tell me that some of these politicians aren’t hoping for Hillary to win, because they know it will be good for their own careers. And tell me also that Bernie can’t beat her when the same thing happened in 2008 with an unknown black senator that nobody thought stood a chance. Everyone said he would lose, he couldn’t possibly beat her, he would lose the general election, he couldn’t beat a war hero, etc. We all know how that turned out. And yet here we are, once again, hearing the same exact garbage from the same exact “experts.” But less and less people are swallowing it.
When people say that Bernie can’t win, I say bullshit. He is surging in the polls more and more each day. And now the attacks are starting on him. The man who is about the most respected politician in the country. The man who has never once ran a dirty campaign. But yet they are comparing him to communism and Trump and all kinds of ridiculous nonsense that is total garbage. They also say that he can’t possibly win a general election. They say that he is unelectable. Who says this? The so-called “political experts” who have gotten almost every single prediction wrong so far. Every poll shows Bernie doing better against Trump and other Republicans. Every poll shows him doing better with independents. And he has accomplished this with zero support from the media and the establishment. And yet they still keep pushing the lie that he can never win. Don’t believe it. They said Trump would be gone by now. He isn’t. They said Bernie would never beat Hillary, yet he has overtaken her in the polls in some states. He draws bigger crowds than anyone, and he has the most passionate, loyal supporters.
If you are perfectly okay with the status quo and mediocrity, then keep voting for the same corporate-loving, big money hacks. But not me. I have never voted for the “lesser of 2 evils” and I damn sure am not going to start now. Do I think Hillary would be a better president than Trump or Cruz? Of course I do. But I don’t think we should be voting for someone simply out of pure fear. I want better for America. And so should you. If not now, then when?

Adolf Hitler Is Alive and Well and Living in America

Written Dec. 8, 2015…

I am watching Chris Matthews’ show and he is playing part of a rally speech that Donald Trump gave on Monday. It’s seriously like listening to a speech by Adolf Hitler. Just take out the word “Muslim” and replace it with “Jew” and we are right back in Nazi Germany. I actually have the chills watching him rant on incoherently, knowing that this madman is actually being taken seriously as a candidate. And his words are echoing around the world.

He has the hate speech and fearmongering ramped up to 15. It’s all about bringing back torture, showing brutal force around the world, building up the military to insane levels, calling President Obama stupid and incompetent, demonizing all Muslims, calling the media “scum” (in otherwords, anyone who dares disagree with Der Führer), constantly bragging about his poll numbers (an obsession with him), and, of course, saying that no Muslims should be allowed into the country. He has made it clear that if a Muslim family, who are already American citizens, went on a vacation overseas, they would not be allowed back in. I’m confused on whether Muslim soldiers would also not be allowed back into the country. I’m also confused on whether all Muslims living here already, would be kicked out. The biggest confusion I have is how he would even accomplish this insane task, being that it’s unconstitutional and would have to first get by Congress and the Supreme Court, who surely would never go along with this madness. But Trump clearly doesn’t care about that. If he said he will do it, then consider it done.

His rambling speeches are all about hatred, division, fearmongering, bigotry, Obama’s failures, blaming everyone and calling them stupid… and, of course, constantly praising himself. A lot of it is just blatant lies and exaggerations. None of it is based on anything concrete. All of it is reprehensible and sickening. Everything he says goes against what America claims to stand for. England has condemned him. Amnesty International has condemned him. He has become a total pariah and made us look bad all around the world. Even Dick Cheney, of all people, has spoken out against him, saying that banning an entire group of people on religious grounds “goes against everything we stand for and believe in.” You know you have reached the Age of Madness when even Dick Cheney speaks the truth.

Trump plays on his followers’ fears about Muslims and terrorists, yet you never hear him talk about how gun violence, committed mostly by white gun-owning Americans – mostly like the ones that support him – are the real danger in this country. The people that go to his rallies are much more likely to be killed with a gun by each other than they are by someone connected with ISIS. But they have been brainwashed into thinking that guns are not the problem – only Mexican immigrants and a billion Muslims.

And his goosestepping followers are going crazy for all of it, chanting “USA! USA!” in the most xenophobic, blindly adherent manner. He has become a cult of personality – a demagogue. It’s disgusting and sickening beyond belief – not to mention extremely dangerous. These are exactly the same type of racist, uneducated, xenophobic, angry, blindly following bigots who gladly lined up behind Hitler to murder 6 million Jews. No, they didn’t do it overnight, but slowly and methodically Hitler pushed their buttons and played on their fears, and got them to go along with his insane ideology – all the way to the depths of hell. The people here are no different. Some that were interviewed said there was nothing that would stop them from voting for Trump. They really and truly believe he is looking out for their interests, and that he is going to save and protect them. They worship a false prophet.

It’s not just that I disagree with everything that this man stands for, as any educated, liberal person would – it’s that his rhetoric is playing right into the hands of ISIS. Demonizing all Muslims is exactly what ISIS wants to hear. Instead of making us safer with this insane talk, it’s putting more people in harm’s way. ISIS will hear his speech, and see his followers agreeing that all Muslims are a danger, and they will think that all Americans feel this way. He is putting Americans in more danger all around the world, including our military and people on vacation. He has everyone convinced that another 9/11 is just around the corner. Yes, ISIS is a real danger, but as I said, the gun problem, which is responsible for hundreds of thousands of lives over the past several years – not to mention mass shootings – is a much bigger problem. But the answer to that, according to people like Trump and Wayne LaPierre, is to simply go buy more guns and prepare for the coming Armageddon.

The thought of this vile fascist becoming President is a truly frightening thought. I fear what happens when he loses, which I’m sure he actually will. All these followers of his are going to be still out there. He has unleashed a monster, the genie in the bottle. And I don’t imagine that they will just go away quietly. I also don’t believe he will either. This country is heading in a very, very dangerous direction.

Remember one thing though: Nobody thought Hitler could ever rise to power. People underestimated him and we all know how that turned out. Let’s hope we don’t make the same mistake here. That is why I will vote for Bernie Sanders, a man who is the complete polar opposite of this evil demagogue, and who actually wants to make America better forall people.

But I just want it known to the world that Donald Trump does not speak for me. He will never speak for me. I will never call him my President, and I seriously don’t think I would be able to continue living in a country who could vote someone like that into office, if, God forbid, we should be so stupid.

But for now, we are stuck with this guy on the news every night, where he has a forum to espouse his racist, vile rhetoric. And he doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon. I don’t know what can finally stop him but, for the time being at least, Adolf Hitler is alive and well and living in America. And we all have to suffer because of it.

The Fall of Rush Limbaugh (Screed #44)

March 6, 2012…

We could not be happier than to finally see conservative blowhard Rush Limbaugh’s imminent collapse. This right-wing buffoon finally went too far. As everyone knows by now, Rush personally attacked college student Sandra Fluke for three straight days last week on his radio show, calling her a “slut,” “prostitute” and “feminazi,” and then saying that she should post her “sex videos” online. He also stated that she must be “having so much sex that it’s amazing she can still walk.” All of this bashing was based on nothing more than Miss Fluke testifying before Democratic members of the House of Representatives in this whole contraception/insurance debate that has got Republicans and Democrats deeply divided and which probably keeps Rick Santorum awake most evenings while reading his Bible.

Miss Fluke never even mentioned the word sex. It’s all in Rush’s perverted little mind. His words were, as usual for him, reprehensible and disgusting. Now, because of his repeated attacks on this young law student, and his lame excuse of an “apology” over the weekend, 12 advertisers (and counting) have since pulled their ads from his top-rated show. You know he only apologized to save his own ass, and all it has done is make everything worse.

Limbaugh has now got the young women in this country up in arms, and rightly so. He didn’t just attack one person – he inadvertently attacked every single woman Fluke’s age. He assumed that because this woman (and millions like her) wants access to affordable contraception and preventive health care, that, somehow, that means that she must be out having sex every evening, and, therefore, be some kind of slut. He then made things worse by saying that her parents are probably ashamed of her. Now he is trying to defend his reasoning behind the attack, by claiming that the liberals had “caused” him to say those things (the whole “devil made me do it” excuse), and that he should have never used those two words: “slut” and “prostitute.” Therefore, what he’s really saying is that he still thinks she is a slut and a prostitute, but he should have simply used nicer words to describe her. This man needs to stop “apologizing” – he just keeps inserting his foot deeper into his big mouth.

Republicans are apparently so afraid of Mr. Limbaugh (according to George Will) that only John McCain and Ron Paul have had the guts to come out and completely denounce Rush’s words and actions. Mitt Romney proved what a coward he is by saying he “wouldn’t have used language like that” to describe Miss Fluke – so, therefore, he also must think she’s a slut and a prostitute, but wouldn’t actually come out and call her those things the way Rush did. Totally reprehensible, but not surprising though. There are still a lot of older men who still think any single woman out having sex to be some kind of a slut.

Rush tried to say that he never meant this to be a personal attack, and that it was simply an “outburst” against his better judgement and moral fiber. First off, this was absolutely a personal attack. Fluke should sue Limbaugh for libel – for that is exactly what it was. Secondly, this was not an “outburst” but a sustained three day assault on the woman. Plus, as we all know, Rush has no morals and has spent his entire radio career bashing and attacking anyone who doesn’t agree with him. This is not just some one-time occurrence. It’s just that, this time, he attacked an average citizen and without any justifiable provocation.

This is a man who spent years bashing drug dealers and addicts, and then was found to be a longtime oxycodone addict himself. Talk about hypocrisy! Now, he’s finally starting to reap just what he has sowed all these years. He’s one of the main reasons why we have lowered ourselves, inAmerica, to constant mudslinging when it comes to political discourse. He has viciously attacked hundreds of people over the years – all in the name of “humor” (as he tried to claim his attack on Fluke was) and ratings. It worked for a long time, but now the tides are shifting. As more and more sponsors pull out of his show, and listeners finally decide they have had enough of his blowhard rhetoric, Rush will be forced off the airwaves. Every woman (and man) inAmericashould be demanding that he be taken off.

Goodbye Rush, you old douchebag. Don’t let the door hit you in your fat ass on the way out.

Hall of Shame (Roll Call #11)

February 3, 2012…

Recent Hall of Shame:

Rep. Congressman Cliff Stearns for his personal vendetta against Planned Parenthood, launching a ridiculous investigation into an organization that spends 97% of its funding on breast cancer screenings and other preventative health measures. He should be deeply ashamed of his actions.

The Susan G. Komen Foundation for using that investigation as an excuse to cut off funding for Planned Parenthood. That is even more shameful and, despite what they say is the reason (they claim it has nothing to do with the investigation), completely reeks of partisan politics. They thought the American people would buy their phony reasoning, but it backfired and now they are in a shitstorm of controversy, causing some of its members to resign in disgust. The whole country is up in arms now and rightfully so.

Republican nominee and multimillionaire Mitt Romney, for actually saying the other day that he isn’t “concerned about the very poor in this country.” Well, why should he be? He’s probably never even come in contact with a poor person — why should he have any concern for them? And his line about being most concerned about the middle class is a bunch of bullshit, if you ask us. The only citizens he would help as President are rich people like himself. This man will say anything to get elected.

Birther queen Orly Taitz, the wackjob attorney and crusader for “justice”, for continuing her idiotic witchhunt against President Barack Obama over whether he is legally a citizen or not. She actually filed a lawsuit against him in Georgia to try to keep his name off the presidential ballot in November. This woman, who was not even born in the United States, is seriously a demented and troubled woman, as are all the idiots out there (Donald Trump anyone?) who still believe, like her, that Obama’s birth certificate was somehow forged. We guarantee that if Obama was not black and had a more “American” sounding name, there would have never been any controversy about his birth place. It’s nothing more than a racial witch hunt.

SOPA and PIPA = Censorship (Screed #43)

January 20, 2012…

Shame on both parties, Republicans as well as Democrats, for consideration of two potentially-damaging bills: SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (Protect Intellectual Property Act) that are being discussed. These two bills would destroy the internet as we know it if Congress and the Senate chose to pass them. Fortunately, due to the extensive internet protests this past Tuesday by Wikipedia and hundreds of other major and minor websites, not to mention protests in the street, politicians quickly backed off. That doesn’t mean these bills are dead in the water just yet though.

SOPA and PIPA basically force website owners to police user-contributed material and call for the unnecessary blocking of entire sites. Every site out there will have to be responsible for each other, which is nonsense. Small sites won’t have the monetary resources to defend themselves if accused of posting copyrighted material. Big media companies will have the ability and power to cut off funding sources for their foreign competitors, even if copyrights are not being infringed upon. Foreign sites will be blacklisted, which means they won’t show up in major search engines like Google. It doesn’t even matter if a site has done something illegal — all it has to do is appear to have done something illegal and it can be shut down. Inotherwords, conviction without trial. SOPA and PIPA build a framework for future restrictions and suppression, with threats of fines and imprisonment.

Congress says it’s trying to protect the rights of copyright owners, but the “cure” that SOPA and PIPA represent is far worse than the disease. SOPA and PIPA are not the answer. They will fatally damage the free and open internet.

This is just a case of the entertainment industry trying to influence politicians through large amounts of money and lobbying. Another word for it is bribery. The RIAA will stop at nothing due to their unbridled greed.

Already, the major filesharing site MegaUpload was taken down yesterday in an FBI sting and the people responsible for the site were arrested. This means that our country doesn’t even need laws like SOPA and PIPA to do their dirty work. Who’s next? Youtube? Facebook? They have copyrighted material posted on their sites by random users. Do they now have to worry about every video that someone posts, for fear of being shut down? It’s insane.

Censorship must be stopped — before it’s too late.

A Kinder, Gentler Newtie (Screed #42)

November 23, 2011…

Just when you thought that Newt Gingrich didn’t care about the “little people”, he shows what a big softie he truly is by saying at last night’s latest Republican freak show (ie: debate) that we shouldn’t throw out illegal immigrants if they’ve been here for many years and have families and roots in the community.

Naturally, the other Repugnicans jumped on that like a hungry dog on a bone, saying that Newt wants to give “amnesty” to every single illegal immigrant in America.

There is one thing conservatives can’t stand and that is human compassion. Blind, ignorant, demonic hatred is what they thrive on. That’s their meat. They chew on evil for breakfast.

Of course, we don’t really believe that Newt actually cares about immigration. He just wants to keep cheap illegal help available to clean his house and wax his cars. He probably wants to bang the Mexican cleaning lady as well. Oh wait, we forgot — he’s now a “devout” Catholic.

Derek Jeter: The 3,000 Club (Validation #6)

July 9, 2011…

The Federation would like to say congratulations to Mr. Derek Jeter for becoming only the 28th person in major league baseball history to reach the elite 3,000-hit club, and the first to do it exclusively as a New York Yankee. Best of all he did it at Yankee Stadium, which only seems appropriate for a player that is well-loved among Yankee fans, including us.

The future Hall of Famer and Yankee captain has had a great career, so far, and may be finally starting to show his age (37) during this difficult season, but he proved today with his two hits (the 3,000th being a home run) that he still comes through in times of pressure, and he has been nothing but a class act throughout his entire career.

We hope that his body holds out and he has a few more good seasons in him, but even if not, he deserves all the accolades that have been thrown his way over the years and we thank him for all he has contributed to the World Series wins the Yankees enjoyed in 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2009. Jeter has given us Yankee fans much to cheer about over the past two decades. He is one of the most beloved Yankees of all time, and we are happy to see him reach this remarkable milestone. Congratulations Derek!

Osama bin Laden and the Armchair Critics (Screed #41)

May 7, 2011…

We have to say that we are inflamed at the mounting criticisms that are being made in Europe, Pakistan and by armchair critics like Michael Moore that we didn’t handle the capture of Osama bin Laden fairly or legally. They believe we should have taken him alive and put him on trial. Why? So that he could make a mockery of our judicial system and gloat in front of the cameras and incite more mindless recruits to join his diabolical cause? So that we can waste millions of tax dollars to come to the conclusion that we already know? Either we put him to death now or we do it later. The man was clearly guilty and he even admitted it himself.  He also said many times that he would never be taken alive. What about if he had had a bomb strapped to him? The mission was risky and dangerous enough — should they have taken even more risks in capturing him? Everyone is playing Monday morning quarterback now.

We believe that everyone has rights, but when you have caused the death of thousands of innocent people, and ruined the lives of all their families and friends, and made the world a much less safer place, not to mention inciting your followers to commit cold-blooded murder, then the hell with your rights. He changed the entire world forever, and not for the better. As we said here the other day — good riddance to that piece of garbage! He deserves nobody’s sympathy. He’s certainly not getting ours. We treated him with far more respect then he and his followers ever treated any one of us.

Bin Laden caused nothing but pain, misery and suffering in his life and for ten years America lived with this open, festering wound. May his justified death bring closure to all the people who lost loved ones because of what he wrought.

We also want to say that we don’t believe Pakistan for one second in their claims that they had no idea he was in their country.  He was living there, supposedly, since 2006 and they never realized it? That’s complete and utter bullshit and they know it. And if they are not lying, then it just shows how incompetent they are. They are clearly not to be trusted, and have no business telling us how we should have handled this matter. This was personal and we handled it in a personal way. We vowed many years ago to capture him dead or alive, and that’s just what we finally did. His death was long overdue but in the end he got what was coming to him.

We should not have to apologize to anyone for that.
