Screed #5

May 19, 2009…

Eminem’s music was and always will be lowest common denominator garbage. And we have never once thought the man can rap. He sounds like a typical lame white rapper trying desperately to sound black. He’s pathetic. Yet, critics all fell over themselves to praise him as a “genius” when he first came out. We really have been dumb-downed as a society to think this man’s music is of any social or musical significance whatsoever. It just perpetuates negative stereotypes and despicable views of women and homosexuals. And his new album is just more of the same contrived nonsense. It’s not even shocking or offensive. Just tired and boring. We’re sure it’ll sell a couple of million copies too.

I agree i have no thoughts on him whatsoever.. If he wasnt famous he would just be considered white trash anyhow.

    hmmm…gotta say i disagree…

in the past, i’d always thought similarly…until i was at the hairdresser, of all places, and reading a copy of “Vibe”, where he was interviewed re: his newest album. My hairdresser, cool guy that he is, started playing the new album. I vaguely realized this, and then realized he was rapping about…REHAB. At first i thought it was sarcasm. But a closer read of the article made me realize no, it was not. I bought the album (ve-eeery strange for me to walk into Best Buy and purchase something in the Top 20), and, reading the lyrics, was…well…actually impressed by his honesty and, yes, vulnerability. Obviously, mysogyny & anger & violence are thru-out, but, GODDAMN! The guy went on record, on this album, rapping about being incested! That takes guts! …made me respect him far more, actually decide he IS a very adept lyricist, and understand how he has become who he is…fucked-upness & all…
